Other ESXi issues with SD this time relating to iLO!

It seems like I'm picking up all kinds of issues since the last update to ESXi 6.5. This was found some time back but just remembered to update the blog with the information.

As with the issues with the Qlogic driver filling up the SD card I noticed again that the SD card was showing as being dead in vCenter.

This was a bit worrying and puzzling as I thought the issue had been resolved previously. This time there were no log files filling up the SD card at all. After connecting to iLO and seeing the logs regarding the SD card and a bit of Googling it seems some people had seen this issue with certain versions of the iLO.

Luckily I take regular host config backups so if there was a faulty SD card I wouldn't really lose anything apart from time and the inconvenience of having to set up the host.

I think from memory the error received was "Controller firmware revision xxxx. Embedded media manager failed initialization" relating to Embedded Flash/SD-CARD.

So on checking no one previously had made any updates to iLO and they were on the original version the servers shipped with nearly 5 years ago :(

So after migrating all the servers off the host and the latest version of iLO downloaded I was ready to go.

The update was straight forward and simply needed to update it using the iLO web interface.
